Is this only happening with Yahoo? (such a crappy instant messenger client though lol).
I don't use Yahoo, so i'm not sure, if you see images on other programs, then I don't know what to tell you here.

It's only happening with Yahoo messenger.
but i tried the same YM in my friends PC (both XP & vista) and it worked fine there.

Try to use Trillian im or First Uninstall your yahoo messenger completely with Revo Uninstaller
then reinstall again.
