[HJT] I got a virus - hinchy - 10-17-2009

I seem to have picked up a virus. I have admin rights on my PC but i cant access Regedit or Task Manager. Scanning with Spybot- Search & Destroy finds these two problems:

Microsoft.WindowsSecurityCenter.TaskManager
HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-343818398-1801674531-839522115-1003\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System\DisableTaskMgr

Microsoft.WindowsSecurityCenter.RegistryTools
HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-343818398-1801674531-839522115-1003\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\policies\system\DisableRegistryTo ols

Once the problems are fixed i can use Regedit or Task Manager for a couple of minutes but then they get blocked again. All help is much appriciated

RE: [HJT] I got a virus - Skawke - 10-17-2009

Hello, I will be your helper today. Please make sure you don't make new threads on this, as it will just hinder the process.

Step 1:
Please run another Hijackthis Scan, and place a checkmark beside the following entries.
  • O2 - BHO: (no name) - {78D48D53-58D1-4614-B47B-4AA5CEDBF0EA} - (no file)
  • O7 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System, DisableRegedit=1
  • O2 - BHO: btorbit.com - {000123B4-9B42-4900-B3F7-F4B073EFC214} - J:\MY STUFF\Apps\Orbitdownloader\orbitcth.dll (file missing)
Click Fix entries.

Also, I noticed you have Remove Restriction Tool running. Have you been attempting to use that? Here are the proper instructions to run it:
  • Boot in safe mode
  • Check restricted options
  • Click Remove

Step 2:
Please download Malwarebytes' AntiMalware.

Double click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
  • Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Please make sure you update the virus signature database before attempting a scan.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform Full Scan, then click Scan.
The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to restart. Restart if it tells you to.
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy and paste the entire report in your next reply. Please encode it in [code] tags

Step 3:
Please run a free online scan with the ESET Online Scanner
Note: You will need to use Internet Explorer for this scan.
  • Tick the box next to Yes, I accept the Terms of Use.
  • Click Start
  • When asked, allow the ActiveX control to install
  • Click Start
  • Make sure that the options Remove found threats and the option Scan unwanted applications is checked
  • Click Scan
Wait for the scan to finish
  • Use Notepad to open the logfile located at C:\Program Files\EsetOnlineScanner\log.txt
  • Copy and paste that log as a reply to this topic

In your next reply please include:
  • The MBAM log.
  • The ESET log.
  • Also, attempt to run regedit again
