> How To Run System File Check - Bugsy - 01-07-2011
Here is just a Basic Guide on how to a perform System File Scan within Windows 7 & Vista;
Go to Start > All Program > Accessories > Right Click Command Prompt and Run As Administrator;
Type In sfc /scannow and hit enter then let it complete the scan.

The System File Checker will look for any system files/.dll file's that are corrupt and will attempt to fix these normally following a re start of your computer.
This can also be run in safemode too by selecting Safemode with command prompt privilage.
(To View Scan Log (CBS.LOG) Go here; C:\WINDOWS\LOGS\CBS\CBS.LOG

I can confirm that this is an INCREDIBLY useful tool,it is one of the first tools i run if someones system can only boot into safe mode.

I have used this before and been knowing about it for awhile now so it's nothing new to me, but those who have not found this out before, this will come handy if there are corrupted system files.

This was not something i expected from a member of HJT Squad. Anyways, System File Checker will only check for corrupted files that are vital for system performance and stability aka Windows folder. You need the installation CD/files where you installed your computers O/S from to perform the repair part as it will obtain the working files from there and replace the corrupted ones with those. I hope this cleared this up a bit.

lol yes it will, for all of the system files. and there is also a location for the log file that gets updated when you run this little command that Bugsy didn't make a note of in his first post. I mentioned that a few members run this command in cmd.exe because of a few problems that they were encountering with their system as well. It is a good little 'tool'
