Virus Protection - bkotz - 10-19-2010

Ok so my avg is pissing me off because its taking up more of my proccessor then it should plus the scans never work right

so anyone know of a free good quality Virus Protection soft where that i can download (other them Malware Bytes) untill i save up enuf money to buy Norton antivirus?

RE: Virus Protection - Solidus - 10-19-2010

Don't waste your time saving for Norton, it wont protect you any more than AVG does.
I recommend Panda Cloud. It's the most lightweight and non intrusive anti virus around. You wont even know it's there.

For extra security, I recommend Winpatrol to prevent any critical unwanted changes to your computer.

Avira always was great for me. (free version)
McAfee though was amazing when I had it. My subscription has ended for it now though, I didn't renew because it's expensive. Sad

AVG, IMO, is a mediocre anti-virus compared to other ones in the market. There are better free ones than AVG too.

Use either Avira AntiVir, or Avast! Free Edition. Don't install both at the same time though.

RE: Virus Protection - Apocalypse - 10-21-2010

I would suggest using the free Avira since Avira is amazing or you can use a premium security suite using this method http://www.hackforums.net/showthread.php?tid=147501.

RE: Virus Protection - Hustler - 10-27-2010

I personally don't use a Virus Protection. If I am about to download something I always scan it on an online scanner. It works for me and my computer is pretty clean.

AvG is actually considered pretty lightweight. Scan only when you are not on the PC.

If you are aiming for a different free AV, use avira or panda cloud as Jay recommended.

I wouldn't recommend doing that. Online scans don't always work(although not all AV's do either), and it doesn't do runtime scans either.

RE: Virus Protection - Diabolic - 10-28-2010

I use AVG virus protection because its reliable.

RE: Virus Protection - Zurmi - 10-28-2010

Hi bkotz,

I recommend using either Avira or Avast like --([-S7N-])-- said earlier.

I have used both, though I am currently using Avast. I like Avast better, but that is just me.

Zurmi

I also reccomend using Avira. It works fine for me and I use a crappy laptop.
