The main idea for this forum was just to provide a place of knowledge that everyone could enjoy and learn from. It wasn't about money for any of us that currently run that forum, so no ads, no upgrades, or anything like that.

Ahh that's great.
Honestly, though, I don't think having upgrades is wanting money if privileges are provided. If you don't want to have paid upgrades, you could have a type of quality upgrade on the forum.
It's really good that it isn't about the money though.
One suggestion I might have is to change the white background, I always find it hard to view websites and read for extended amounts of time (or anytime at all for that matter), with white or another harsh color blaring into my eyes.

Most upgrades require money, but I do like that idea actually, as soon as I read this part I was starting to think about upgrades that don't require payment, then reading a bit further I see you mentioned the same thing I was thinking lol.
Every professional tech based forum uses a white background though. It's like the cliche color scheme for tech and business.
Take SevenForums for example. Along with others like Win8Forums, VBForums, W7Forums, etc...

It doesn't have to be the same as others though, does it? I'm fairly sure by the name users will understand what the site is about, really.

No, it doesn't, you're right, but I've been on a darker theme, and all my members enjoyed this theme much better, and replies as to reasons why were because it was more professional.
It's getting to be a bigger community as time goes on, and things will only improve from here I can guarantee that. I've paid for advertising on a few bigger tech related sites, and out incoming traffic is growing. Now it's just to encourage members that it's worth registering

I can't help but notice you aren't the OP. Are you part of site staff? Just curious.
You've got to go w/ the majority on the color, I guess. I'll never settle for a white forum though, :/.

I'm the administrator there, I created the forum, but I run it with another admin, so it's half and half, he's just the one that created the thread. He initially funded techlifeforum.net as a domain and got hosting all up, while I posted the rules and customized the forum. So it's been equal work all around. I recently paid him back for the hosting and all that, so it's fairly even right now. But even so I would still consider it both his and my forum.
We both run as administrators there.

I'm UID=1 because I installed the forum, however he's UID=2 but I placed him as Admin because our deal was to run the forum together. We've both put in lots of work, and it's paid off as far as I can tell. We're still continuing to grow too.
I am in the administrators group, I only have it set as the display to BSOD Crew because that's a group I created, and myself along with one other member that joined are the only really knowledgeable people in that particular field of computer analysis, therefore I have to promote it to hopefully get more people to join
I've posted tutorials and everything for someone to learn about BSOD analysis if they wanted as well.

Yep, and being now partnered with a good friend "Nuno Brito" who owns his half on Reboot.pro. You could technically say that we in total have 1000's of members. We're learning to become a full community, and it helps both of our forum communities grow. Looking for more content and knowledge on a wider range of information based on communities was our main interest in the switch. Again, not about money, but providing the best for the community members.
