When I first first FIRST got into web development, I started leaning HTML and CSS like you. But I found Forums were the better way to go for me, or blogging. I prefer having software, doing it manually just takes up too much time. But it's not like I don't learn anything with MyBB or Wordpress, I still get to see how everything works, and crap like that.
