Since they are a poor family, the little thing help. Obviously you cannot do too much, but since she is your girlfriend, pay for everything when she is around you.
This will not help the brother part, but it will help get a little more money in the family's pocket, also, maybe give some money to the mom for Christmas to help out with that.
