Perfect if you're looking to learn about Bash, Linux's command line language. Often, people use Ubuntu as a stepping stone for more advanced distributions. It's basically an all-purpose Linux distro, however. But most computers come with Windows 7 nowadays, so you're going to need a good reason to remove that to put Ubuntu on. Otherwise I'd just advice duel booting.
