Slim it has less chance of over heating and its not as noisy as fat.

I've got the slim & I'd prefer it over the fat one. The thicker ones aren't really my style, I never bought thicker Sony game consoles (PS2 - Slim).

If you get the older Fat models you can play PS2 and PS1 games, I believe the 40GB model does. However, you can upgrade the HDD at any time. I upgraded my 80GB model to 500GB.

The Fat Ones I heard run better, my friend has a Slim and the DVD Drive like practically burned out with a CD inside of it.

I prefer the slim because it is smaller and can fit in most spots. The original one just takes up space.
