Hey, have you guys noticed the rise of plant-based diets and how mainstream they’re becoming? Not just for vegans, but even fast-food chains like McDonald’s and KFC are introducing plant-based options. It’s interesting to see the shift in our eating habits! What are your thoughts? Do you think this trend will continue to grow or is it just a fad?

There’s been a lot of buzz around the role of graffiti in our modern city landscapes. On one hand, some folks view graffiti as an unwelcome eyesore that detracts from the beauty of our buildings and streets. On the other hand, some see it as a vibrant expression of individualism and social commentary, a colourful splash against the drab concrete. What has struck me as really fascinating lately is how cities have started embracing and even commissioning graffiti art. Brilliant artists are turning gloomy underpasses, blank walls, or old towpaths into large scale masterpieces, in some cases turning their neighbourhood into a sprawling, open-air gallery. I’m wondering…

It’s interesting to observe the climatic patterns changing with each passing year. Could it be because of global warming that we’re experiencing relatively mild winters and early blooming spring flowers? The daffodils and cherry blossom trees are already in full bloom in my area, and let’s not forget the buzzing bees who seem to have gotten an early start to their busy season. This might sound nice and beautiful, especially for those who adore spring and its burst of colors. But it does spark conversations about whether these changes in the patterns could signify a larger issue at hand, like the undeniable wrath of global warming. Has anyone else noticed this patt…

Has anyone else noticed the increased attention being paid to sustainable fashion these days? It’s been really interesting to see the shift in the fashion industry as more and more brands are focusing on ethical and sustainable practices. From using recycled materials in their designs to adopting fair trade practices, it’s becoming clear that sustainability isn’t just a fad - it’s a necessity. But what does sustainable fashion really mean? We often talk about it in the context of environmentally-friendly practices like using organic cotton or rejecting fast fashion, but there’s also a social aspect to it. Sustainable fashion must also be ethical, meaning that wo…

Whether we like it or not, the global pandemic has forced many aspects of our lives to move online, including education. Schools all around the world had to adapt and find ways to continue teaching remotely. This shifted the dynamics not only between teachers and students but also changed the ways students interact and learn. Now, few months since this new norm was established, what are your thoughts on the effects of remote learning on education quality? Some argue that technology can’t replace the traditional classroom, whilst others believe that digital tools can make teaching more effective and engaging. What kind of educational experiences have you had duri…

So the Academy Awards announced recently that they are implementing new diversity requirements for Best Picture contenders. The rules, which will take effect starting 2024, require productions to meet certain diversity and inclusion standards both on and off-screen. This move is certainly sparking a lot of debate. On one hand, it’s a noteworthy step toward promoting diversity in Hollywood. It puts the focus on representation from traditionally underrepresented groups, both in terms of cast and crew. It’s a way to not only tell diverse stories, but also provide opportunities for a wider range of people to be involved in making these films. On the other hand, I’ve …

So I found myself getting lost in the kitchen earlier, more specifically, I was super deep into baking. Usually, it’s not my thing, mainly because, you know, the whole precise measurement and exact timing thing always got to me. I’m more of a ‘a dash of this and a splash of that’ kind of cook. But today I was home alone and dyin’ for some chocolate chip cookies. I mean, who can resist, right? So I decided to roll up my sleeves and get to it. Half an hour later, voila, got myself a plate of perfectly baked, mouthwatering cookies fresh out of the oven. As the heavenly scent wafted through my cozy kitchen, I kid you not, it felt like some kind of meditation, you kno…

Seriously, what is it with people and their inability to return a shopping cart to its designated place? It’s not that hard is it? Look, I get it we all have our lazy moments: such as not wanting to go all the way back to the store entrance to return the cart, but come on. You usually find them right there in the parking lot. And, yeah, we all have days when it’s raining cats and dogs or it’s hot enough to roast an egg on the pavement, but that’s not a good enough excuse to leave your cart out in the middle of nowhere. Now here’s the real kicker. When said abandoned cart starts to blow with the wind or roll downhill and smack into parked cars. Don’t even get me starte…

Hey there everybody! I was looking out the rain-drenched window today and found myself thinking about all the different hobbies we turn to when the weather has us stuck indoors. I’ve become an unexpected fan of jigsaw puzzles and baking. Used to be I could barely boil water, and now I’m considering trying my hand at a lemon tart, courtesy of the downpour today. Just something about the steady patter of the rain helps me find my zen and enjoy these slower paced activities. So how about you folks? When the weather locks you in and you’ve no choice but to stay cosy at home, what hobbies do you turn to? Anyone else find the rain a strangely perfect companion to a new reci…

Honestly, is it so hard for people to understand how to properly recycle? We’ve known about the importance of recycling for decades now but it’s like the concept just doesn’t compute with some people. Don’t even get me started on public spaces - it’s like a freakin’ minefield navigating through the maze of discarded plastic bottles and fast food wrappers. It’s like hello? Earth talking, care to give me a little love? I’m not saying we have to go zero-waste overnight (I mean if you can, props to you) but the least we could do is segregate our waste properly. Garbage bins have labels for a reason. Compost, recyclables, hazardous waste - it’s not Chinese calligraphy folk…

a damp, drizzly day here and I’m hauled up with a good book… there’s something about the sound of rain lightly tapping the window and the smell in the air that I find so calming. anyone else find that? Like is it just me or does rain create a whole different atmosphere? and lets not even talk about adding a good book in to the mix. literally heaven!! I’ve got this bangin’ fantasy novel I’ve been slowly chipping through (no spoilers please!) and it’s just making this whole day chef’s kiss ya know? speaking of books tho, I’ve got a whole shelf that I’ve either not read yet or just moved on to something else more interesting. It’s like my to-read pile is constantly g…

Sooo, cleaning out my granddad’s old house this weekend and found a bizarre-looking coin at the back of a drawer. Not a coin enthusiast really, but can’t shake off the feeling this could be somewhat of a lucky find, or at least something with a story behind it. It’s about the size of a quarter, but thicker, with a really worn face on one side. Kind of looks like a Roman emperor or something, with a weird crest on the other. The edges are uneven too like it’s been hand-hammered into shape. Definitely not something you’d find down the back of the sofa for sure! Any thoughts before I move forward and take it to a coin expert? I’ve done a bit of online research but t…

Blokes, lately i’ve been deep down into this hole of urban gardening and let me tell ya, it’s absolutely a game changer. It began as a small project, I got myself a couple of pots, filled them with good old soil and just went with the easiest things to grow, like basil and parsley. window sills were my experimental gardening plot. Couple of months in and I’ve expanded into vertical gardening on my balcony with recycled plastic bottles. Involved a bit of DIY there but it was truly worth the effort. Now I have cherry tomatoes, chilies, spinach and even some strawberries climbing up on the fence. What’s been really surprising, to be honest, is the amount of produce that …

hey folks, gonna switch it up a bit today. let’s chat indoor gardening, shall we? been messing around with it lately and gotta say, it’s a pretty interesting hobby. so i started with a mini kitchen herb garden, ya know, basil, mint, chives, thyme and so on. nothing too fancy. figured it’ll be nice to snip off a few fresh herbs while whipping up dinner. didn’t have much hope initially, as everything i touch seems to wither, but it’s been a few weeks and they’re hanging in there. tried my luck next with a couple of succulents. picked up a jade and a snake plant. hats off to whoever named that one, it really does strike you like a snake. these beauties require littl…

Okay, I’ve gotta get this off my chest. Potholes. They’re absolutely everywhere and it’s infuriating. I mean, our council tax is through the roof and all… but still I feel like I’m on some obstacle course every time I take the car out. Hit one last week, BAM, that’s a new tyre down the drain. Even when I’m super careful, it’s like playing whack-a-mole with these bad boys, they pop up all over the place. And don’t even get me started about at night when it’s basically a case of Russian roulette as I navigate the streets. Plus, it’s not like our city is humongous or anything. I know there’s a pandemic going on, but come on, is it too much to ask to get some semblan…

So, I had a thought while I was brushing my teeth before bed last night, a little odd I know but hear me out. You know how most people brush their teeth right before hitting the hay and then again when they wake up in the morning? I was chatting with a friend and they mentioned that they brush their teeth, eat brekky (usually just a bit of toast or a banana) and then brush again afterwards. To me, that just seems like a whole lot of unnecessary toothpaste usage, but they reckoned it was weirder that I don’t do the same. That got me thinking about the strange little rituals and habits we all have, that seem perfectly normal to us, but bizarre to others. There must be a…

hey folks, so I was sitting on my back porch last night, sipping some chamomile tea and doing some evening thinking. my mind somehow wandered to languages, you know? like, all those thousands of languages that we have developed around the globe. it’s wild, isn’t it? think about it, every culture, every community, every country has its own unique way of expressing themselves. and it goes beyond the literal words too. the tone, the rhythm, the gestures, it’s all a part of our communication system. more fascinating is how different languages affect our perspective of the world. like the way Eskimos have so many words for ‘snow’, simply because it forms a huge part of the…

So there I am, right, just trying to enjoy a peaceful Friday evening at home. Feet up, cup of tea in hand, ready to finally start that new Netflix series everyone’s been raving about. But, can I hear the dialogue? Can I heck. Why? Because for the last seven weeks there’s been near constant construction at the house across the street. They start first thing in morning, sometimes even before the sun comes up! The incessant drilling and banging is driving me round the bloody bend. Okay, fine, I get it. People want to improve their homes and all that, but did they have to pick the contractor who apparently only owns the world’s loudest power tools? And while I’m at it, w…

Have you all noticed how small changes in our daily weather patterns seem to align with the predictions related to climate change issues? Your typically snowy Christmas is now rain-soaked or the vivid spring has now become a sudden heatwave. Even if we don’t experience these extremes, inconspicuous shifts like increased humidity or frequent downpours make us feel something’s not right. Our weather has been going through an upheaval and often we wonder if these are the same places we grew up in. For those who have lived in the same place for a while, do these changes feel more pronounced? And what about local flora and fauna? Shifting blooming seasons and migrati…

I woke up this morning and the first thing I saw on my news feed was the Grammy’s reshaping their rules. Apparently, they’ve created a more transparent and fair process for selecting the winners. Now nominees in the general and genre fields will be chosen by a majority, rather than a select committee. They’ve also made some changes in respect to tackling conflicts of interest, which caused a lot of controversy in the past. I’ve always been a big music fan and followed the Grammy’s with some interest. Some decisions in the past really got me scratching my head, wondering how some artists were overlooked while others were continually favored. Anyway, with these new chan…

Can you believe it’s been over a year since most offices decided to close their doors and we’ve all adapted to, more or less successfully, a work from home setup? Some of us won’t lie, the transition was tough, especially with kids around or a lack of a proper working space. But let’s shift our view away from the obvious cons and think about the not so apparent benefits this change might have brought. First things that come to my mind are savings on commute time, lunches, and work clothes. But what about things that didn’t occur to us immediately? Maybe your relationship with your partner improved because you could spend more time together, or perhaps you picked up a …

The world today is becoming acutely aware of the environmental impact of our actions, the fashion industry included. Notoriously known as the second biggest pollutor after the oil industry, the dilemma has increasingly made headlines in recent years. With sustainability now becoming a buzzword and consumers becoming more and more environmentally conscious, there’s a certain practice gaining traction - thrifting. Thrifting, or the action of shopping at a thrift store, flea market, garage sale, or a charity shop, is becoming widely popular, especially amongst the younger generation. So, how has this eco-friendly shopping practice impacted you and your shopping habits? …

I’ve been thinking a lot about the upcoming Tokyo Summer Olympics. Without doubt, it’s a huge event that has been drawing global attention for many reasons, including the pandemic. But one aspect that often goes under the radar is how much the event itself has evolved over time. Think about it: Back in the day, the Olympics were a mere displays of physical prowess, now it’s a rally of the world’s greatest athletes combined with a multimedia extravaganza of dazzling lights, music, and performances! From the way it’s broadcast around the world, to the events included and even to the way the medals are made - so much changes in every cycle. I’m fascinated by how the …
