Been pondering about this one for a good while now. I mean one one side, who wouldn’t want a home that almost runs itself? Telling Alexa to turn off the lights, asking Google what’s the weather outside, having a smart fridge that tells you when you’re low on milk - all sounds like stuff out straight from a sci-fi movie, doesn’t it? And I must admit, the convenience is pretty enticing.
But then there’s always that creeping thought about privacy issues. All these gadgets “listening” when you’re not really interacting with them? Dunno about you all, but it gives me a pretty uncomfortable feel. Yeah, they say it’s all encrypted and secure but then again, no system is ever entirely foolproof right?
Then there’s the cost too. Sure, some of these gadgets can save up on energy consumption and all that but let’s be real – initial setup up ain’t exactly cheap. That’s without even factoring in the maintenance and occasional replacements.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for embracing tech and moving with the times. Heck, I practically live on my phone! But personally, I’m not entirely sold on kitting my entire home with smart gadgets yet. Might wait a year or two to see how things evolve.
Wondering what y’all think about this. Anyone here gone full-on smart home and can share their experience? Or perhaps there are folks 🤔
