Can you believe it’s been over a year since most offices decided to close their doors and we’ve all adapted to, more or less successfully, a work from home setup? Some of us won’t lie, the transition was tough, especially with kids around or a lack of a proper working space. But let’s shift our view away from the obvious cons and think about the not so apparent benefits this change might have brought.
First things that come to my mind are savings on commute time, lunches, and work clothes. But what about things that didn’t occur to us immediately? Maybe your relationship with your partner improved because you could spend more time together, or perhaps you picked up a new hobby since you had more free time on your hands.
I was also thinking about our surroundings, has anyone else felt that their neighbourhood has come alive? Before, during the weekdays, residential areas were almost like ghost towns with everyone away for work. But now, you get to see your next-door neighbours more often, or notice how your street changes with the seasons, something you wouldn’t notice rushing to work every morning.
And what about your work-life balance? With no clear cut-off between work and home, has it become more blurred, or have you managed to create a healthier balance perhaps? Maybe you feel more productive working in the comfort of your home?
