Last night as I was rolling over for the umpteenth time, trying to get my mind off an ongoing issue, a thought occurred to me - we all have unique ways to handle the high and low tides of life. Whether it’s the coping techniques we’ve inherited from our family and friends or the ones picked up along the road of self-discovery, we all have our secret weapons when things get tough. Many, I’m sure, also deal with emotional and mental health struggles on a daily basis, just like I do.
I often take refuge in music. Something about the harmonious blend of melodies and lyrics puts me in a zone. It becomes my sanctuary where the outside world, with all its complexities, hushes. Painting, too, has been a saving grace. The strokes, shades, and textures have a veiled language of their own, portraying emotions beyond the grasp of words.
But there are days when even my go-to methods seem inefficient. And, that could also be a bitter reality for many of you here. So, I thought it could be beneficial for all if we could use this thread to discuss and share some of our most effective coping strategies during challenging times. I believe we all can learn a lot from each other’s experiences.
What are some activities or practices that you turn to when times get tough? How has your coping mechanism evolved over time? Do you find some tactics more 🤔
