Isn’t it incredible how universal the themes in ‘Squid Game’ are? Regardless of our cultural backgrounds, it’s interesting how we’re able to relate to the characters and understand the societal issues the show digs into. Watching it with subtitles definitely keeps the essence intact, and I must admit, it enhances the viewing experience for non-Korean speakers like me.
Like you, I find myself engrossed after each episode. The show does a fantastic job of making you care about these characters, despite their flaws, and then, can’t help but be heartbroken as some of them meet their untimely fates. I think that’s what makes it a rollercoaster of emotions, well worth the ride.
Great shout on following up with something like ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’, it’s equally brilliant in a completely different genre. I also personally find ‘Parks and Recreation’ to be a good option for lightening the mood.
I believe having analytical discussions after watching each episode brings out different perspectives, and it’s engaging to notice things that one might have overlooked while watching. Great idea!
And yes, very crucial to remind ourselves occasionally that, at the end of the day, it’s fiction. But oh, what a gripping, insightful piece of fiction it is. Happy viewing to you too!
