Right-click on the extension your wish
to install and click Save Link As... and save it to My Documents.
Now, go to My Documents>>Tools>>Folder Options>>View, and uncheck Hide
Extensions for known file types.
Now, go to the .xpi file, and change ONLY the .xpi to .zip
Go into it and find the install.rdf file, open it with wordpad or notepad, and find lines that look similar to this:
>EmMinVersion>0.6>EmMinVersion<
>EmMaxVersion>1.0.7>EmMaxVersion<
Change the MAX version to your version of Firefox, if your using
a 1.5 version, I recommend putting 1.5+ there, so you don't have to edit it every time a new little update for Firefox comes out!
Now, save the *new*
install.rdf file to My Documents, go into the .zip file and delete the other install.rdf. Drag the new install.rdf into the .zip file, and change the filename BACK
to .xpi ...
Go to your Firefox, Tools>>Extensions, and go down and click the install button, find the .xpi and install
it!

Or, if you don't want to go through all that, just install
Nightly Tester Tools, or
Mr Tech Local Install !!
