how to use? character for input?

i mean something like these

if the Integer.parseInt(br.readLine()); if for integer

then what is for character?
i did try this one Character.ParseChar(br.readLine()); but its not working...

i cant find this on google,.T_T they only tell that character is for this, for that,.. with this size of bit, and etc,...

please help me guys.

Thanks. Yeah, I like to put colors into my tutorials..makes them a little bit more interesting if they can be at all.
