When I make the background transparent and save it, the square background still doesnt appear like this

I think he made a button. Instead of a picture, he used create a button thing.

I painted it from scratch in GIMP. You must have those grey spots on your image because some layer has grey brush strokes on it. Make a white layer and put it as the background so you can see where the grey is and you can erase it, and then you can delete the white background.
