So I just got off the phone with Paypal support as I wasn't able to change the funding source to a source that actually had money. The lady told me that it's part of their anti-fraud system and that it automatically makes a judgement about what funding sources should be allowed in the transaction based on a scan of the buyer and seller. She then went on to say that there is absolutely no way of overturning it and that I should "look into payment methods other than Paypal". Now I'm looking for a payment processor that will allow me to make all of my online transactions hassle-free. I have an account on both Alertpay and Moneybookers but I have never used either of them. I still plan on keeping my Paypal as their shouldn't be an issue with spending money that's already in my account (aka I don't need an additional funding source) but I want to use it only in case whoever I'm dealing with doesn't use whatever other site I choose here. Can you give me some pros and cons of some of the more popular payment processors? I'd like something without limits or with a fairly easy verification to get unlimited. Any thoughts on a program good for mostly digital goods / services?
Alertpay is decent. I have all accounts AP, MB, and PP. The issue is really that Paypal is so widely used and people are very hesitant to use another provider.

What exactly are you selling btw? Look into Google Checkout. It's actually very good. I been dealing with payment processors for 15 years. At one point I was doing $30,000 a month in charges for my store.

Also for digital goods look into digitalriver.com and their sub companies. I am using reg.net for HF subscriptions.

They offer various options depending on your needs. One word of warning. They are in many ways a shitty company. They are US based at least. One advantage of theirs is no chargeback fees and people can still use paypal but it won't be your account. So you're not risking your PP. If your DR account gets closed you probably won't care either. One disadvantage is their fees are high. So you may need to offset that with higher prices and depending on your product it might put you out of a competitive range.

So to summarize. Paypal, Alertpay, Google Checkout, and Digital River.

btw...I haven't tried it yet but I believe Amazon is now offering payment provider solutions.

Oh....lol...forgot to mention 2CO (2checkout.com) which is more like a private merchant account. It's a $50 setup but it's a very good service with lots of support and scripts to setup shops. Huge compatibility imho.

As you can see I been around the block for researching this. I spent 2 weeks reading every TOS I could find and comparing processors a couple months ago when I needed to stop using PP for HF.
Thanks a lot. I do a mix of buying and selling so I need something that's good for both. I logged onto my AlertPay account and I am very impressed. I'm especially excited about the fact that I can actually get the money sent to me, unlike with Paypal. If I was just doing merchant stuff I would check out the one you use now but I have to do both. I think people are used to hearing about AlertPay enough that they may give it a try if they haven't already. Thanks again for all the info, I had a feeling you might have learned a thing or two about payment processing when the HF thing happened.
Seriously Alertpay is an alternative not a replacement. You'll lose 90% of your business. The issue is that to send Alertpay funds a person needs an Alertpay account. You won't find too many buyers willing to bother with that. Yes some people have Alertpay account but they're not funded or confirmed so they have limited access. Alertpay actually has higher security than paypal which means more hassle for it's users.

You will lose many clients if you replace PP with AP.

And before the HF incident I had already been aware of all the processors it's just that I took the time to read every TOS and compare thoroughly all pros and cons.

I really have "Clients" that I work with. I mostly use this for the trading I do on Namepros and I also pay for some other services with it. I am worried about the consequences of only being able to accept AlertPay but I'm out of options with Paypal and I don't really have the needs for a merchant service.
Http://www.neteller.com is a very good one. Smile
Well, I've dealt with Moneybookers, AlertPay, PayPal and Google Checkout in the past, but please be aware that Google Checkout will try and make you deal with Pounds or Euros (not US Dollars) if you're in the UK or an EU Country - or at least, that's what's happened to me in the past from experience.

I rather like PayPal on the basis that you can keep the money in your PP account and use it again instantly, although with Google Checkout the money gets transferred into your account next business day (AFAIK), so there are pros and cons with both.

Best of luck!
