ok so i reckon my computer literacy is fair (lets say 4/10) so can u pls explain to me about the p2p protocol and how exactly skype works with simple words. I want to impress my buddies lol. thanks in advance.
Ok, here goes.
P2P is peer to peer file sharing basically you download files from other people but over a torrent client, eg. utorrent / frostwire this makes it easier and safer then just sending it to someone, also faster.
That's why more seeds = faster download because you are getting it from other people.
Skype.
Skype is like MSN, but more video orientated. Basically an IM client - I don't use it so i don't know the ins and outs
Should be a bunch of stuff on the sites.

Hope this helped.
P2P is a protocol transfer as mark said is used in torrent, emule... and most of sharing programs. It consits in that :
EXAMPLE:
We have "X" file with 5 parts we supose. You haven't any parts and you're using torrent. Mark have 2/5 (you haven't it) and i have the 5/5 parts (you haven't it too). Mark haven't 3/5 parts. Mark's torrent client will ask to my client for download the incomplete parts who he have. At the same time he can share the parts who he have with you and i can share too my parts. Finally all we have the "X" file and all will be happy
In this case I'm the seeder(I'm sharing only) and Mark and you are leechers(you're downloading and sharing).
ABOUT SKYPE
It works using the VOip protocol(voice IP(internet protocol)). It consists in sending compressed audio from your computer and IP to the others clients without SERVER. The best of skype isn't only the pretty interface, skype compression is very efficient.
I hope you like my explanation and my example
