I have noticed a lot of people asking how to partition a hard drive. I decided to write a tutorial to help them and any others who wish to know. This is on Win. 7 or Vista. It will work on XP if tweaked.
1st.
Goto Start and click Control Panel then System and Security.
Then click Device Manager. When the Device Manger Box pops up you should see all your drives.
2nd.
Right click the drive you wish to format, right click and select "Shrink Volume"
3rd.
When the window pops up you will see several options. You can ignore most of these but the ones labeled in blue are important. This says how large the partition should be. Select what ever size you wish and click "Shrink".Device manager should now partition the hard drive.
4th.
Now next to the hard drive there should be some un-allocated space.
Right click it and select "New Simple Volume" In the window that pops up just click next until this page.
Here you can name the new partition or assign a drive name.

You should now see the new partition under "My Computer"! You can you is for installing multiple operating systems or for back-ups among many things!
