I have had a quote for new drive and "stealth mod" (he claims being able to play online with copied games, but i'm skeptical) for £50(~$80).

I just bought a new one out of my PP instead. Smile

You can buy new drives from pretty much anywhere now, and there are the tools and tutorials all over the net for how to flash them yourself.

You could pickup the tools for around £15-25 and the drives for around £10, all the software/firmware you need is available and free to download.

I wouldn't trust any "Stealth Mod" as they just flag up an error with MicroSoft to say that the firmware has been tampered with. The best firmware to use at the moment is LiteTouch (the latest version, as always) and that should keep you going for some time.

About playing online; it is possible to play online on a flashed console, however, you need to make sure every game you play is 'clean' using ABGX and make sure that you don't play any games before their official release date.

MicroSoft also have 'ban waves' or 'mass bans' once a year, usually around November time (just before all the big releases come out) if you've made it through November without getting banned, you're home dry.

Hope this helps
Thanks for the feedback Smile

Drives are only $15? I might fix my old console then.
@Norris (because he's from the UK), heres a legitimate site to get tools/drives from http://www.ck3.co.uk/ but you can get them cheaper on eBay obviously.

You're welcome, if theres anything else you need help with feel free to PM me.

I've seen drives go from $15-20 on eBay, definitely worth a look at.

I hope this helps.

I'll take a look; hopefully I can restore the drive on my old Xbox and find some use for it.

It would be good to use as a offline 'backup' (copy games) console. You could use it to get a feel for games you're not sure about, before you go out and buy them. Or just to play games before they come out, your choice.
I fixed a few of my disks with toothpaste. Don't rub in circles, but rub it the natural direction the disc is spinning. Don't just put a glob of toothpaste. Put a drop or two on a sock (a clean one) spread it out, then commence rubbing. Wash afterwards of course.

NOTE: Do not use toothpaste with whitening beads for it. They will destroy your disc.

I didn't add that for a very specific reason, it can damage your disc even more and if you do it a lot then it can straight up stop working. I wouldn't recommend doing it.
This is a nice little method you have here for others.

Thanks, just trying to contribute.
Thank you. My GTA game was impossible to play without something happening to it within 5 minutes. This has helped me tremendously because I can finally play GTA again like the good old days. Thank you OP for this technique!
