Hey ive been using vista and xp for quite sometime now. I was wondering if i can upgrade my vista to windows 7. Yeah i know i can but will it run properly? Do it need special specs to run or can i just install and go.
Any operating system needs certain requirements, Just download Windows 7 Advisor which will analyze your system for Windows 7 requirements.
Depends on what you're running
64bit: 4GB RAM Minimum (Recommended)
32bit: 2GB RAM Minimum (Recommended)
If you have ran Vista fine, I'd almost bet that 7 would run fine. My mother has a desktop that came with XP, but was "Vista compatible". Vista was slow as piss on it, but 7 runs decently smooth. 3 Ghz dual-core processor with only 512MB ram.
My laptop is a 2Ghz dual-core with 4GB RAM, and it runs perfectly with 7 (but better with Linux ;) ) when I chose to use it.
I have 32 bit 4g RAM. So im guessing it be fine. ill check that adviser also. Thanks for the help guys.
If you don't have a minimum of 2Gb RAM on any Windows 7 version though you won't see the true benefits of using Windows 7 at all in my opinion.
32 bit versions have less strict requirements though, so go for it, you'll be fine if you have 4GB memory for sure

I wasn't trying to debate against you; you're right. I was just saying that if it runs Vista, it will run 7. It would be much better if you have at least 2GB of memory. I was only saying that if a machine with 512MB can run it, I'm sure he can.

Glad we could help.
I knew you weren't I was just trying to reassure him of some recommended guidelines after him seeing that someone else runs it with 512

Okay, I understand. And I don't / wouldn't. 512 ran fine for my mother who only uses eBay and Gmail. I use Linux myself lol.

Depending on your hardware it will run I have upgraded from vista to Win 7 I have 1.5 gb ram and its runnning good for me.
IMO, I have just recently switched from my old laptop (had Vista) to my new laptop (has Windows 7) and let me just say the difference is great. Windows 7 is so much better than Vista and I have ran into 0 problems as I had with Vista.
