I am such a disaster. Every time I make a sarcastically funny remark it gets interpreted as an insult and then everyone just thinks I am a douchebag. Is it truly better to stay quiet than to open your mouth and screw something up?

The difference between stealing from people and stores? Nothing. You're stealing from someone, just not from their house. It's still their property, you just don't meet them face to face. You should rethink that.
