well nice tut but i do not advise anyone to do "First, take a toothpick, and start scraping off the dried thermal paste off both the chips, and the heatsinks. "
use a cotton wool buds with /methylated spirits/cleaning alchhol.

This is a genuine common fix. I used to work for a game and console reseller. This is how we did a LOT of store repairs.

If that's the truth, then thanks a lot. That's giving members (me included) a lot of confidence in this method. Thanks!
Really great tut, only ways I knew were like the towel trick lol. Will look at this if my elite ever gets it.
I just sent mine in and they fixed it for me.
I tried many fixes but mine seems to be really doomed. Some water came in and then just BAM RROD. Tried everything but something most be blown to death Sad

well if water have got in the xbox 360 could have done more damage then you think like a short circuit.
I tried to do a similar fix I found somewhere else with my last xbox that got RROD, failed miserably.

I just ended up getting it professionally reflowed for 50 dollars or something =/.
I'v tried this it just ruin my xbox more.
I've tried the towel trick many
Times and it seemed to work great !
