Anyways, I'm converting my old VHS movies to DVD so I don't lose them over time and I would like to know; if my VCR doesn't display for example 00:03:23/00:37:22, for the time on the tape, is there another way to know how much is recorded?

Depends on what you are using to convert the VHS to DVD . I use Pinnacle Studio to record them from my VCR to my laptop . Its connected by a video capture card . Pinnacle shows me how much is recorded and how much is left .
