The definition of virginity varies according to belief and culture. Many religions and states don't recognise same-sex relationships. Famously, Queen Victoria didn't acknowledge homosexuality in women (although Sapphic scandals were not uncommon in high society). In some cultures, female virginity was/is a necessary requirement for marriage. This could be "proved" by blood on the nuptial bedsheets, but it does assume that the hymen is not affected by non-sexual activity.
Most opinions given in this thread are based on mainstream or heterosexual acts of genital penetration. Female homosexual acts involve different ways of penetration which can affect the hymen - and deeper besides - as well as virginity.

I agree with this. Losing virginity is being penetrated by a sexual organ, putting on a dildo or fingering them doesn't count

I believe that on paper, for medical reasons, it shouldn't be considered losing your virginity. However, I think socially the world has already adapted to the word "virgin" relates to any kind of sex.

They are still virgins since they did not get penetrated.

Not everyone's perception of becoming a virgin involves the need to be penetrated. That's what makes this a debate.

I think a girl is a virgin until a human penis has been penetrated into her vaginia.
& as for a boy, until he has put his penis into a humans' girl's vaginia.

Same here.
And off-topic but I couldn't resist. You call yourself 'GrammarPhreak'? After your last post, I find that incredibly hard to believe.
