For some reason I'm getting told that the URL to install MyBB
isn't on my server.

I have the files in my FTP, I've CHMOD'ed the required files, created
MySQL database/user.

I've tried all kinds of different variations of the "domain.com/install"
but they all say "URL is not on your server"?

Should I move the files to a different directory? they're in public_html right now

You haven't uploaded anything correctly.
Close FTP, open it again and check they are there.

No, it's what I used for gfxforums before moving to a dedicated. They're the best in the business.
How long ago did you purchase hosting and edit nameservers?
