I'd say update RAM and the Video card but XP being the way it is id move to vista/windows 7
but you could switch to Linux and it all run smooth without putting money into it. =) lol

Since you said Windows 7 has a bunch of vulnerabilities you could always go with a linux operating system like ubuntu.
