Hi everyone. I need help urgent.

I just bought a new 1TB internal hard drive today. It’s a Seagate Barracuda 7200.12. For the longest time, I’ve been using a small 80GB Western Digital internal HD. I needed more room so I decided to change. I’ve never had an issue using Windows 7 on my 80GB HD. The 80GB HD is an IDE and the new 1TB that I just purchased is a SATA HD. My motherboard support both IDE and SATA. On my motherboard, there was an IDE slot where my 80GB WD drive has always been plugged as well as four SATA ports at the bottom right with marking “SATA”, SATA1”, “SATA3” and “SATA4”. That’s how I know it can support both.

I needed to buy an adapter for my new 1TB HD because it does not have the 4 power molex pins. It only has the SATA power cable and SATA data cable. So I used an adapter like this http://www.linuxappliance.net/media/cata...dapter.JPG Everything seemed to be fine until I booted my computer for the first time with my new 1TB hd. When I try formatting the drive using my Windows 7 32-bit installation disc (which I can assure you is perfectly functionally as I have used it several times on various computers and laptops) it gives me the following error. http://img201.imageshack.us/img201/7389/98699633.png At first, I wasn’t quite sure what to do but then I thought it might have to do with my BIOS. But I don’t really know how to use it as I’m not to savvy with computers. This is how my BIOS looks, I scanned my computer’s user’s manual. http://img26.imageshack.us/img26/1984/biosr.jpg Since there was nothing I could do in the BIOS, I decided to scan my system with the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor. The scan finished and my system passed. That’s when I realized there was no point in doing so since I’ve always had Window 7 but just on another HD. Here are my computer’s specs while using the 80GB WD HD. http://img155.imageshack.us/img155/91/pcspecs.png

I have no idea what to do now. I can’t install my OS on my new 1TB HD so I’m stuck deciding whether my new hd is compatible or there’s something I need to be doing. Regardless, and advice would be helpful. I’m really desperate at this point and would try any troubleshooting.

Hello,

hmm well, when i switched from ide to sata i had an error also when i installed windows xp form bios, but that is was because win xp original didnt supported sata2 so i had to download a version that contained many drivers etc.

ur problem must be in bios, try to search for "disk controller" in ur bios, dont worry u cant make anything wrong, just dont change anything in "frequency and voltage control"...erm i edited the pic about ur bios, search the ones in the red square but dont touch the ones which i crossed.

that function should be somewhere there.

If I find the disk controller setting, what do I do?
it will prbably will be in "disabled" mode, enable it by pressing enter on it, then quit and save settings. conputer will restart once u saved bios settings and lets hope ur problem will fix.
Ok. Do I need to put my new HD in my computer to change the BIOS or can I do it with this one?
You can do it with ur current one.

also make sure when u installing the os on ur new hdd, unplug your old one.
Yes, that I'm aware of. I'll report back in a couple of minutes.

I posted this on another forum as well and someone gave me the following advice;

Quote:If intel processor set the channel to raid if amd then ahci.

Quote:You set that in the bios.
when you see the splash screen press the Delete key to enter the setup. look around for the hard drive settings. If you need to make a change remember to save the settings upon exit. Don't change anything you're not sure of. You can look around and exit to get comfortable with the bios. It will always ask if you want to save the changes. see if your sata channels are enabled. If not, enable them
well yes, thats right.

but i dont rememebr exactly if i had to set it to raid. but ofc check it, if it isnt on raid then make sure u change it. Smile

also if u got amd then change it to ahci.

that person might be right.
I went into my BIOS and saw the both "Onboard IDE Controller" and Onboard SATA Controller" were Enabled so I decided to try Disabling the "Onboard IDE Controller" only and leaving the SATA enabled. It gave me the same results.

I'm really stuck. I have no clue what to do at this point. I don't even know how to navigate through my BIOS to set it to RAID, not to mention, I don't even know what that is.
Darn, there must be an option for raid, maybe the option ansver "disabled" "enabled" will be the raid that is why u doesnt see it.

i mean try to search for raid in bios.

btw im not sure the problem is not with win 7 installion disk, try to get one like this: http://torrent.eval.hu/torrent/Windows%2...0)/5803715

if it still doesnt work the the problem is 100% bios related, but try to search for raid first in bios.

good luck, hope u will succeed, i have to go now Sad
