Firefox should be built into Xubuntu i thought?
You will have weeks and weeks of fun playing with it i assure you.
Followed by weeks and weeks of frustration when you do work it out because you want more functionality.
Thats what i find with most new Linux users. They love it to start. Then over a few weeks they start to try more daring things.
And ultimately destroy X or something similar then give up. Me included lol. Damn linux.
That said i will probably be installing the new Mandriva soon. I really love that distro for some reason.
Might add. Install Wine the first chance you get. Its a good emulator to run windows apps inside Linux. And works quite well i must admit.

As linux is evolving and as I support Canonical and Ubuntu I gladly rock
Ubuntu 10.10 Gnome.
and for all that are OMG Gnome is bloated,
If you can stand windows then gnome will be fine. esp if you want a full featured enviornment.
